What we're aiming for
We build and test this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. We haven't met every part of it yet. The gaps we know about are listed below, and we're working through them.
What we've done
- Every page works with a keyboard, and "Skip to content" is the first thing you land on.
- You can see where you are. Links, buttons and fields show a clear outline when they're focused.
- Menus, pop-up panels and the cart close with Escape and put you back where you were.
- Buttons, fields and controls have real labels, and adding something to your cart is set up to be announced to screen readers.
- Anything that moves on its own has a pause button. If your device is set to reduce motion, it starts paused.
- Text and controls are checked against the WCAG AA contrast ratios.
- Pages hold together at 200% zoom and on screens as narrow as 320 pixels.
- We check the site with automated testing and by hand with a keyboard, on phone and desktop sizes, in Chrome and Safari's browser engine.
Known limits
Some parts of the site come from other companies. We pick them and adjust what we can, but we don't control their code:
- Rewards (Loloyal). We've recolored the rewards button for contrast. The panel it opens is Loloyal's.
- Reviews (Yotpo).
- The cookie banner (Shopify).
- Spam protection (hCaptcha) on some forms. If it gets in your way, contact us and we'll take your request another way.
- Shop Pay and other express payment buttons.
- Checkout, customer accounts and subscription management (Shopify Subscriptions), which run on Shopify's hosted pages.
- We haven't finished testing with screen readers such as VoiceOver and NVDA. That's next.
Need a hand?
If anything on the site gets in your way, tell us and we'll help you get what you need.
- Use our contact page.
- Or email info@insideoutcookie.com with "Accessibility" in the subject line.
Tell us the page and what happened. A person reads every message and replies within two business days, and if something on the site blocks an order, we'll take the order by email while we fix it.
